1. Open a bank account
You will need to have a bank account in order to manage the finances for your Project. Below we have set out a number of factors to bear in mind when choosing a bank account:
- Visit several High Street Banks
- Make an appointment with the personal banker at each branch
- Explain your Citizen Project and how you expect to use your money
- Find out the following information

:: Best account type
:: Interest rates
:: Notice period (if any) required to withdraw money
:: Does the bank offer any incentives for you to join them?
:: Are the bank staff friendly / helpful?

2. Using the Skills for Life Active Learning Plans
Trident Edexcel has produced a range of materials to support the Skills for Life Programme and the curriculum. These attractive resources, designed by educationalists will help teachers and students enjoy a better quality active learning experience, and will enable you to capture all the learning that takes place.
The Trident Skills for Life Programme will:

- Speak to people and get their ideas and advice
- Plan well in advance

4. Making the most of family contacts
Almost everyone will have relatives or friends of the family in business of one sort or another.
These people can prove to be very valuable and you need to think about how they can offer support without increasing their workload.

- Make a list of all people you know who may be able and willing to help in some way
- Consider how your contacts may be able to help you before you approach them

5. Getting sponsorship
Companies are always looking to get good publicity in local and national press and are prepared to sponsor projects if they believe they will benefit. Companies do not give money away for nothing and you will need to research the companies carefully.
What you need to do
- Prepare a general letter that you can easily adapt to any company – it is worth spending a long time on this to get it right
- Compile a list of companies who may be interested in supporting you
- Ensure you address the letter to an actual person – you may need to call the reception to ask who would be the best person to address your letter to
- If you have not heard anything 2 weeks after you sent the letter, call the company to see if there has been any progress.

6. Getting in Local and National Newspapers
You can benefit greatly by getting in the press. Not only is it great to see yourself in print, but also it is an excellent way of improving your chances of generating sponsorship and ensuring good attendance at your various Money Management events. Publicity is also a great way to raise the profile of your Citizen Project within the community.
What you need to do
- Make a list of contacts at all your local newspapers, local radio stations and national newspapers
- Make sure you write up all your major events and submit them to your contacts as a press release.
